OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS
HAMILTON. Things have been very quiet about here for along time, and nething much to note. It has been a very backward season all through, and the white crops in general are very poor; but the late showers have fetched on the turnip crop well and the grass is very good, bo that now things are looking well. Most of the shearing is over, and I am pleased to note that there has been a good clip with excellent quality of wool.
2 But fur mining this is the worst' season that has ever fcesn known in the place* The water only lasted a little over three months, and there has been very little doing for ihi3 long time. The annual picnic of the Waipiata Sanday School was held last Saturday at Mr Mathias's, The Beeches, and we all got an invitation; and, as ÜBual, it was a very enjoyable affair, games of every kind being carried on by the young people, and the children ran races and nearly all of them got prizes. The refreshments were of the best, and plenty of them. Mr and M°rs Mathias and family did their best to make everyone happy. At 4 o'clock the Rev. Mr Burgess addressed the children and distributed the prizes. The first was Jessie Macdonald, who did not miss one Sunday; the next was Edith and Doris Paterson, who missed one each. Jessie Macdonald and E. Paterson got first and second prize in Class I, and Doris Paterson and Agnes Macdonald got first and second prize for marks in Glass 11. These were given by Mr and Mrs Coram and Mr and Mrs Mathias, and the teachers, Miss Mathias and Miss Tregonning, gave prizes to all the smaller classes. The Rev. Mr Burgess gave a splendid address which was much appreciated by the public. The children afterwards resumed their play, happy after the splendid prizes they had obtained, and tea and sports were con--1 tinued until the darkness began to set in, when all went hoire happy after a very enjoyable day. January 23rd.
