AUGUST GRADING RETURNS

The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce Ims issued the following return showing the quantities'of hemp, tow, and strip-per-slips graded at the ports of the Dominion during the month of August, 11)20.

Hemp. —The total number of hales graded was 5,83(5, as compared with. 4,SIS for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 1,018 hales. For the 12 months ended 31st August, 1920, I lie number of bales graded was 9/,592, as compared with 102,803 for the previous 12 .months, a decrease of 5.211 bales.

Tow. —During the month, 1,497 hales were graded, as compared Avilh 977 for the'same month lasi year, an increase of 520 bales. For the 12 months ended 31st August, 1920, the number of bales graded was 21,528, as compared with 15,415 for the preA'ions 12 months, an increase of 0,113 hales. >S( ripper-slips. —During I lie mont h 231 hales were graded, as compared v, ilh nil for the same month hist a oar. For the 12 months ended 31st .'August, 1920, the number of bales graded avus 501, as compared Avith 313 bales, an increase of 191 bales. The following are the details of the gradink of hemp at the different ports: —

Napier 458 —, Five bale- ul Auckland, 11 at Foxlon, and 39 at Wellington, were rejected. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows: —-Auckland (57-4, Foxlon .1899, Wellington 2.37(1, Dunedin 213, Bluff 117, Blenheim .192, Napier 458. The number of bales in each grade throughout the Dominion was as under, the totals for the corresponding month of last year being given in parentheses: —Good fair 1,1.58 (531), high fail' 2,935 (2,981), fair .1,595 (1,51.8), common 183 (89), rejected 55 (2), total a. 839 (4,818). The folloAving are the details 01.
