CKICKET.

Manawatu v. Foxton.

This match was played yesterday at Palmerston and resulted in an easy win for the home team by 97 runs on the first innings. The visiting team who were fairly represented made a wretched start and despite the batting of Bowe, 19; O. Cleland, 14; and Watson 10 who made 43 out of total, put together the paltry score of 53. Bartlett and Greer’s bowling was very good. On Manawatu going in the visitors’ score was passed with only 4 wickets and eventually amassed the respectable total of 150. Oakley (43 and Greer 32) displayed good form, Wells (x 6), R. Eyre (14) and Bartlett (13) were the "other double figure scorers. Foxton’s fielding was moderate, Bowe, 0. Cleland, and Redgrave each secured 5 3 wickets. Foxton in their second venture gave a very creditable display and had they done so in their first the game would not have been so one sided. When ' time was called the score stood at 100 for 8 wickets, thus saving a one innings defeat O. Cleland cannnot be too highly commended tor his 57 not out whilst Bowe was again to the front with a capital 18. The visitors were very' hospitably treated and left with a most pleasant recollection of their day’s outing. Following are the scores.;—
