Foxton v. Old Boys.
A match was played last Saturday in the Park between the Old Boys (Palmerston North) Club and a combined Foxton team. The. former, who were anything but a weak team, having won the toss, elected to bat first and put up the respectable score of 136, the principal scorers being : H. Prebble 35, and Barraud retired, 22, who both.showed good form in compiling their runs. The score book says the last named retired by special request —as Artemus Ward says, “ N.B. — This is a joke.” Fraser, 20; Oakeley, 19 ; Wells, the burly man of the team, 14, and Stewart, 10; were the other batsmen who secured double figures. The Foxton fielding was not over good, several catches being missed. A little over an hour remained for Foxton to bat in, but they managed to keep up their wickets till time was called and had put up 72 for the loss of six wickets. Consequently, the game was drawn. Baillie again showed his ability as a batsman, by playing an excellent innings for 26, whilst Redgrave made a lively 15. Messrs Reade and Greer discharged duties of umpire. Afternoon tea- was provided by certain Foxton ladies and their kindness was suitably acknowledged. Following are the scores: — OLD BOYS. Prebble, b Bowe 35 Greer, c sub., b Redgrave ... o St. C.
