SEX HYGIENE

INSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN

MISSIONARY DOCTOR'S VIEWS

The necessity of introducing some system of educating children in sex hygiene was emphasised by Dr W. 11. Pettit at a meeting of teachers and members of the edupation board and school committees held at Auckland. The speaker said that any physician could convince parents that a great amount of disease, ill-health and unhappiness was caused through lack of scientific knowledge of this subject. He watS doubly eager to see some system adopted in the schools since his experience with the Expeditionary Forces. Man after man had said that a clear knowledge imparted in a scientific way in boyhood would have saved a great deal of unhappiness and suffering in later years. The speaker said that never yet had he met a man who had come to harm through clean scientific knowledge. He hoped the day would soon come when in training colleges, lectures would be delivered to men and women on the most efficient method or imparting knowledge on this delicate subject, Until all teachers were so equipped, special lecturers i hould be appointed for the schools.
