PEACE SQUABBLING

FOOTBALLING WITH THE

TREATY

THE AMERICAN WRANGLE

[Prkm! Association.]

iustraiiaa and N.Z. Cahte Association

(Received April G, 8.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 5. The New York Times's Washington correspondent says that Senator Hitchcock predicts that^ the League Covenant will be separated from the Treaty and offered as an1 amendment to the joint Peace resolution. The Republicans express .surprise that SenatoV Hitchcock considers it possible to separate the Covenant from, the Treaty, and say they will offer the Treaty terms as an amendment to the Peace resolution.

Some Republicans say that the Covenant will be rejected, since the 3'eace resolution is intended only to declare peace betwee?i Germany and the United States, while the League, of which Germany .is not yet a member, concerns the Allies and the United States.
