FLAXMILLING DISPUTE
OFFER FROM THE EMPLOYERS
MEN" ASKED TO RESUME WORK
£P«aw Association. ] PALMERSTON N., July 4. Negotiations between the flaxmillers and the flaxmill employees are apparently nearing a satisfactory conclusion. Representatives conferred yesterday, and an agreement was drawn up on the lines of a. letter from Messrs A. Seifert and R. T. Bell, flaxmillers,' to the Employees' Union, as follows: ' ' "In consequence of the increased price of liemp now ruling, we agree to recommend the Flaxmillers' Association io re-'bpen on a. basis that for day work Is. '9d an hour or 14s a day T>e the.;, autoiriatic scutching award rates; hand scutching 30s per . ton; cutting '20 per cent, off last season's rates ;[ paddocking, with carting, 32s in summer and 35s in winter; paddocking, without carting, '23s in summer and 26s in winter. Should tlie necessity for a revision of the -wages rates arise a month's notice to T)e given on either side. A conference to be called immediately."
The president and secretary of the Flaxmillers' Union agreed to recommend tlie flax workers to commence work forthwith on these terms. Both sides will consider the recommendation immediately. It is expected that work at the mills will be in full swing next -week.
