EX-TSARWA STEALS THE
CROWN JEWELS
REPLACED BY IMITATIONS.
(United Service.) (Received Sept. 27. 10 p.m.) PARIS, Sept. 26
The Journal forecasts the possibility of the ex-Tsarina being accused of the theft of most valuable Crown jewels, which have disappeared. The theft was discovered recently, when a rich American woman offered to buy two 'pearls for £25,000 apiece which she had seen worn by the Tsarina at Cowes regatta years ago. The Rusisan Government, instituted inquiries at the Palace Museum, and the safes were opened in the presence of experts. The best jewels in the Imperial Crown were found to have been replaced by imitations. It was later discovered*that the stones were sent by a diplomatic messenger of the Tsarina to her German residence at Darmstadt.
It was further discovered that valuable tapestries in the Palace had been replaced by copies, and the. originals sent abroad.
