LPkwn.h Association.] WELLINGTON, July 7. The Appeal Court heard argument in the case of Hills v. Ashton. The case raises an important question under the Land Agents Act of 1912, the question being whether the engagement or appointment ot a licensed land agent m respect ot tne sale ©r other disposition of land— Which engagement or appointment is required by virtue of Section id ot the ahove Act to be in writing, signed by the person to be charged with the commission—must be signed personally by such, persons; or can it be signed by an agent for such person t Mr Copper appeared for the apTOGplant, and Mr W. J. Treodwell for the respondent. . -, - , .r The appeal is from the judgment of tfhe "Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who held that a land agent was eniAtled to recover. The 'Court did not make it necessary to decide the question whether •signature by an agent was sufficient, but decided affirming the decision of Sir Robert Stout that there was in ihe correspondence an appointment actually .signed by appellant. _ The appeal was dismissed, with 'costs on the lowest scale as from a 'distance. ■ On the application of the r Wellington 'District Law Society the Appeal 'Court made an order absolute striking Oliver Noel Gillespie off (the rolls of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme 'Court.
