BLENHEIM STOCK SALE.

Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their monthly stock sale a* follows:— We submitted a good entry of sheep and a number of cattle in the Cooperative yards on Wednesday la^ and' are pleased to report haying made a total clearance. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, whidb: came forward in very good condition and met with a good demand. We quote the following prices:—Heavy fat wethers 19s 3d to 20s 6d, medium fat wethers 16s 6d to 18s ; medium fat ewes 13s lOd to 15s Id, light fat ewe» 13s 4d, store wethers 14s, 6 and Btooth ewes in lamb 13s lid, s.m. ewes in lamb 11s 3d, aged ewes in lamb 3s 6d to 5s Id, ewe hoggets 9s sd, cowswith calves £5 2s 6d, cows in calf £4 7s 6d, Jersey heifer £5 7s 6d, calves £2 to £2 6s.

The general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., <says a Press Association message),, has received a cable message from the London Board advising the declaration of a dividend of 6 per cent, for the half-year, and a bonus to shareholders of 1 per,cent, oh the paid-up-capital (£500,000), equalling 13 per cent, in all for the year ended 31st Maroh last. The sum of £20,000 has been added to the reserve fund, whiclr will then stand at £520,000, £15,000 has been added to the reserve for depreciation, of investments, and £36," 750 has been carried forward. The directors have further' allocated £15^--000 in reduction of bank premises account, and £5000 to the officers' pension fund. The annual meeting of the bank will be held in London on July Ist.

In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr F. 08. Loughnan, S.M., gave judgment by default in the following; cases:—Smart Bros.' Timber Co.Ltd., v. Thomas Gill, £38 14s 3d, with .-£2 16s costs; F. Patchett Y.Leonard Gill, £5, with £1 Is 6d costs; Taylor and McKenzie v. Esmond Connolly, 5s (Court costs) with 2s costs; Same v. Leslie--J. Connolly, 5s (Court costs). In the judgment summons case of Wollerman and Co. v. Arthur Jones r , £15 9s 6d, the debtor was examined by Mr C. H. Mills, for the plaintiffs,, and the Magistrate declined to make an order.

A Wellington Press Association telegram states that when the steamer Tahiti'was 2000 miles from San Francisco the wireless operator distinctly heard a conversation conducted upon wireless telephones in that city.

A Foxton. press message states that two fishermen named Charles Small and William Young crossed the bar in a flat-bottomed boat yesterday to' co fishing, and have not yet returned. Fears are entertained for' their safety.

A Hokitika Press Association telegram says that Mr Michel has not yet decided whether to contest the Grey seat. He expects to be able to give* his final answer to-morrow. A further numerously signed requisition has; been forwarded to him from Greymouth.

The Commissioner of Police states that he has received reports indicating, that members of the police force were enthusiastic in their desire to qualify by study for examinations. The first examination will be held on. September 22nd, when police detectives and iergeants desirous of qualifying for sub-inspectors' rank will be tested.— Press Association.-

A gas explosion occurred yesterday in a brick building just about to be occupied at Foxton. Workmen engaged cm the building noticed that the gas escaped, and a plumber applied a lighted match to a joint. An explosion followed, which shattered the window® and destroyed a. portion of the ceiling. Nobody was seriously* injured. The damage is estimated at £40.—Press1 Association.
