A NEW LOCAL INDUSTRY.
BACON CUEING COMPANY.
The requisite number of shares having been taken up to enable the recently-formed Farmers' Co-opera-tive Bacon Company to become registered, that formality has now been completed, and the first meeting of directors was held on Wednesday evening last. The following provisional directors were present, Messrs R. Ham, J. G. Mudford, Jacob Kennington, D. Gilchrist, and F. A. Sneider. The secretary (pro tern), Mr A. Adams, reported that of the 4000 shares available, 1190 had already been applied for, and applications for another 1000 at least were expected within the next week or two. All the shares applied for were allotted to the applicants. Mr Ham was appointed chairman of directors and Mr Adams secretary until the statutory meeting of shareholders, which will be held on 24th July, when permanent directors will bo appointed. The registered office was fixed as Mr R. Wanden's, Charles Street; the Bank of New Zealand v:;is appointed the company's bankers, Mr E. J. Harvey auditor, Messrs McCalluni and Mills solicitors, and Mr H. Howard broker. An application having been received for the position of curer from one of the best bacon curers in New Zealand who forwarded excellent testimonials anrl a very large number of pri/» certificates won by his special cure of bacon, the secretary was instructed to negotiate with a view to an engagement being entered into. After a committee had been set up to draft suggestions for special articles of association, and routine business transacted, the meeting terminated.
