NATIVE AFFAIRS.
As Minister, for Native Affairs, the Hon. Mr Herries was interviewed at the Council Chambers, Blenheim, on. Wednesday night by Mr Tahua Watson and Mr A. Rore, who asked him to obtain for the natives of the Wairau Pa the power to rate their lands so that they might be enabled to erect flood protection banking and drain their lands.
The Minister ' replied that the matter was one that would require to be dealt with by special legislation, and said that lie would favorably consider the question of inserting a clause in the Enabling Bill to be brought down during the forthcoming session.
