OIL FOR NAVAL PURPOSES.
UNEXPLOITED FIELDS.
(Received June 13, 11 p.m.) LONDON, June 13. Commenting on Mr Churchill's statement that the Government was considering tenders for naval oil from the Mexican, Eagle, and other comjnnies, the Chronicle protests against tI-3 suggestion that the Government wi-'H influenced by Viscount Elibank's connection with Cowdray's firm. The Standard Oil Company is American, and the Shell Transport Company is Dutch, whereas the Mexican. and Eagle Companies are British controlled. The Chronicle advocates the Admiralty developing the oil-fields within the Empire under its own management. Tt is unfortunate that the Shell Transport Company has secured a monopoly in Trinidad, but there are unexploited oil-fields in Canada, New Zealand, and elsewhere.
