ATTEMPTS TO POISON HER-

SELF

[press association.]

• . AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. A girl of about 20 years, dressed in male attire, was admitted to the hospital suffering from poisoning by perchloride of mercury. Though her condition is serious she will probably recover in a few days.

The Salvation Army authorities state that early last evening a welldressed "youth" walked up to the Army Home at' Parnell, and after ringing the door bell was seen to swallow some tabloids from a phial. Suspicion was aroused and a doctor and the police were summoned. It transpired that the visitor was a girl masquerading. She admitted having taken poison, stating that she was tired of life and wished to end it. She had been in service at Ponsoriby.

The girl -was removed to the hospital.
