HIGH-HANDED PROCEDURE

BRITISH MANUFACTURER GAOLED AT YOKOHAMA.

NO CHARGE PREFERRED

[press association.]

TOKIO, Jan. 29. Wheeler, a British manufacturer, was arrested and gaoled at Yokohama. No charge was preferred against him, and bail or legal advice was refused.

The Consul-General has intervened

Wheeler represented the Genz Wheeler Company, which obtained so many orders for knitting machines that deliveries were behindhand.

The firm believe that this fact was the cause of the trouble, and they are of opinion that the authorities were guilty of high-handed procedure.
