SHEEP RETURNS.
T-HK 1912-1913 LAMBING
A return published by the.Department of Agriculture gives the total breeding ewes and the estimated percentage of lambs for the 1912-1913 season. Dealing with stud sheep, the return estimates the percentage of lambs in the Auckland, NapierGisborne, and the Wellington-West Coast districts as 95, and the percentage in the Martborough-Nelson-iWestland, Canterbury, Kaikoura, and the Otago districts as 101. The totafe under the heading of "stud" in tlie North Island are:—Lincoln, 28,403; Bomney, 64,984; Border Leicester, 3936;, English Leicester, 4564; Shropshire, 2313; Southdown, 7681; other breeds, 4198; and for the South Island Lincoln, 3048;'Bomney, 23,984; Border Leicester, 25,485; English Leicester, 24.715; Shropshire, '5127; Southdown, 4461; other breeds, 11;211. The grand total is: Lincoln, 31,451; Roniney, 88,968; Border Leicester, 29,421; English Deicester, 28,279; Shropshire^ 7440j Southdown,. 12,142; and other breeds, 15.468. "- : ' : ■■ ■■-a
Under the heading of "flock" the estimated percentage of lambs is 03 in the North and 90 in the South: The North Island total is given as 8,277,381 crossbreds and other longtwjols not studs, whilst in the South Island the total is 693,661 merinos »nd 5,091,877 crossbreds and other long-wools not studs, giving a grand total for New Zealand of 11,369,258.
