CALCUTTA, Jan. 16. Two unknown men assassinated Debendra Ghose, a well-known political suspect in Eastern Bengal. The police recently arrested 13 men who were preparing for a system of political dacoity, and it is believed that Giiose's companions thought that he gave the information to the police.
OPIUM PROHIBITION,
SHANGHAI, Jan. 16. The Shanghai officials, with a militia escort, enforcing the opium prohibition at Chengtu, encountered 1000 armed men. Both sides fired a volley, and two were killed,and many wounded.
PUTUMAYO INQUIRY,
LONDON, Jan. 16. At the Putumayo inquiry, Sir JUster Jlaye, director of the Putumayo Company since 1908, denied all knowledge of the ehai-ges against the Peruvian management.
