STRIKERS AT PLAY
THJS SPORTS GATHERING
WAIHI, May 17. The Waiiii Band and members of the Fire. Brigade, .(iiii-i'ancy costume) attended the .strikers' sports meeting. The gathering numbered over 1000. Mr Scott Bennett, .the Socialist lecturer, was expected in the afternoon to address the crowd.. At 11.80 a monster procession was formed in Main Street, and marched to the recreation ground. The crowd was perfectly orderly .for the most part, atid appeared not to realise the gravity of the situation/The gathering; i:ather had the* appearance of holiday .making under prosperous condi-' twna.
