COOK MEMORIAL PRIZE.

. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 19. , It was reported at the/ meeting of the University Senate to-day that the sum of £100 or more had been collected by the graduates of Canterbury College for the purpose of founding a prize in memory of the late Professor Cook. The University was asked to accept the money and to provide an annual prize in mathematics, the prize to be awarded for exceptional merit at the honors examination. The Senate decided to thank the graduates, and to inform them that the Senate .would be pleased to provide an annual prize in the direction they desired. The matter of drawing up regulations wias refen'ed to the Science Committee.
On Tuesday the question of the appointment of Registrar will be taken.. To-day a motion for the appointment of New Zealand graduates as university examiners was rejected by 11 votes to 10.
