HANDCUFFED MAN ESCAPES. [press association.] CHRISTCHURCH. June 12. A young man named Wm. Murphy, remanded from Ashburton, jumped off the train on the way to Christchuixh. Ho was handcuffed at the time, and in charge of two constables, and the train was winning at 30 miles an hour. Murphy seemed uninjured after his leap, and got over a fence into the open country. The train was stopped and the constables went back, but the man had disappeared.
