Drizzling rain fell during the luncheon interval, and the gather was gloomy and cheerless. .The attendance in the afternoon increased to 3000. , ~ Robson put up a fine bowling performance, capturing eight out ol tne nine wickets, Chidgey, by smart wicket-keeping, accounting for three behind the stumps. Lewis took the first wicket at 61. The second fell at 35, and the third at 37. • . , . ' -. ' Trumper retired in his second over, beaten by one of Robson's shooters. McAllister played excellent cricket. He batted for an hour, leaving the record four for 40. While Noble and Gregory were partnered the light became so bad that play was stopped. Robson repeatedly beat both batsmen. At 58 Chidgey snapped up Gregory on the leg side of the wicket. Noble retired at 77, caught low down at slip. Three runs later Armstrong put up a "skyer" in the slips, Greswell taking the catch. Seven for 80. The Bardsley-Maqartney partnership lasted 55 minutes, and added 45, the century appearing at the end of two hours' play. Play was stopped at 6.15 owing to the bad light.
