A BRISBANE TRAGEDY.
A tragedy occurred at a late hour last Monday night in a- house situated in Lower Albert Street, Brisbane, resulting in the death of a man and a young woman. About 11 o'clock Charles Ebberhart, who is believed to be a sailor, was in company with a girl, Lily Juet, and shortly afterwards the sound of several shots was heard coming from the direction in which they had gone. The police were summoned, and on arrival tound Ebberhart and the girl lying dead. The girl had three bullet wounds an the body and the head,, the latter being greatly disfigured. The man was wounded in the region of the heart. Death must have been instantaneous Jn each case. The cause of the tragedy is a mystery. It is supposed that a quarrel took place, and Ebberhart shot the woman in a fit of rage, and then turned the pistol upon himself. Jealousy is said to have been the cause. Ebberhart, who was a powerful man, of about 35 years of age, was, according to his papers, a .fireman. The girl was aged about 20.
