For Children's Hacking Cough at nigh^-Woods' Great Peppermint Cure, Is 6d and 2s 6d. At a meeting of the Christchurcli Fire Board on Tuesday^ evening, the superintendent of the brigade reported that since a permanent brigade was employed there was no longer any necessity for. ringing a loud bell in case of an alarm of fire. The bell was of no use to the brigade, and was a source of annoyance to those living within sound of it, besides having the effect of bringing a crowd together just when it was not wanted. He had given orders to discontinue the ringing of the bells. The police had taken some exception to this, but the inspector had agreed to the new, order, provided some means could be found of letting constables on their beats know of alarms. Some- members of the Board expressed the opinion that the majority of the public expected to bo warned in case of fire, and the report was held over.
