The speakers urged adherence tot resolutions of the fifth and sixth. Con-* gf esses of the Empire. , [The cablegram referred to was as fol-< lows:—The Montreal Board of Trade, at a meeting held on May 7, unanimously" agreed to submit a resolution! to the Sydney Conference in favour of. the Empire's protecting itself against/ foreign producers: hence Britain and the Colonies should grant each other / substantial preference, and, .as far as their respective revenues will permit,, the principle of free trade within the! - Empire should remain. Mr George, ex-president, was chosen to- apt as delegate to the Sydney Conference, but has since resigned, on the ground! that the resolution was ill-considered! and at variance with the. national trade policy of Canada. . A special meeting of the Board will be.held next? week to reconsider the resolution.]
