A RUGBY SENSATION.
CASTLEFORD EXPELLED FROM
THE YORKSHIRE UNION
The Yorkshire VJup-tie between Headingley and Castleford on Saturday was the principal business considered at the meeting of the executive of the Yorkshire Rugby Union, held at Leeds on Monday. Mr Gil Evans, the referee, said the match was the worst he had ever seen, and he had never witnessed rough play like it. He, had to order B\ Dalton, the Castleford half-back, off the field for jumping on an opponent after the latter had parted with the ball. After Pickering had kicked his poal wholesale roughness was introduced, and some of the Headingley players showed signs of retaliating, and in view of the.danger to players he stopped the1 match eighteen minutes after the interval." He exonerated three of 'the. ' Castleford three-quarters and Mutch> a haW-baekj from blame, for they gave him every assistance. The whole affair was a menace to the iiugby Union. ■• ■:
■Mr Tattersall, president. of the Yorkshire Union, said the match was the,\worst he had. ever witnessed, and, Mr Miller, oft Leeds, said.half-a-dozen men might "have been ordered, off. The latter portion- of the game beggared description, and he never saw a more dirty or disgusting one in the course of his whole career.
The committee, after considering the matter at length, unanimously decided to award the match to Headingley, and expel the Castleford club from the Union.
