BODY FOUND IN A POOL.
A VICTIM OF DESPONDENCY
[press association.]
THAMES, May 8
What appears to be a case of suicide has been reported, to the police. Elsie Johnston, aged 23, the daughter of a Thames resident, left home on Thursday, and has not- been seen since. On Thursday she was seen heading for the Kauranga_ Valley, where there is a river, deep in places. Yesterday a note was found in a drawer in which the girl expressed her intention of making away with herself. A search of the river was made, and the girl's hat and boots were found in the vicinity of a deep pool. The police are now dragging the river. It appears that the girl became despondent because she failed to secure employment, and her mind became unhinged. Later. The body of the girl Johnston was found in the Kauranga River this morning. The skirts were found near tlje water. There is no doubt that the case is one of suicide.
