GISBORNE, May 8

An eight-roomed house at Te Hapaia, owned by R. M. Birrell and occupied by R. D. Long, was destroyed by fire this morning. The insurance is £300 in the National, and on the furniture £250 in the same office. *

INVERCARGILL, May 8

A large two-storeyed wooden residence at East Invercargill, owned by E. B. McKay, auctioneer, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The occupants escaped in their night attire. The building was insured for £1000 in the Standard, and the furniture for £400 in the New Zealand.
