The New York correspondent of The Times states that while a momentary ■calm exists at New York and the currency troubles are relieved by the influx of gold, the industrial centres are not similarly eased.
In many places outside the largest cities clearing-house cheques are freely aised.
Paper-money manufacturers are unable to get their bills renewed, and are practising rigid economies, dismissing ■employees and cancelling orders for work. "
Leading New York bankers profess to "be satisfied at the financial outlook, •"but the restoration of equilibrium in fhe industrial centres will be slow.
