ATTEMPT.TO UPSET THE PROPOSAL. AN AMENDMENT LOST. [press association.j SYDNEY, Oct. 3. ■In the Presbyterian Federal Assembly, a determined attempt was made io abandon the steps taken towards an organic union oi the Protestant Churches. A report was submitted showing the advance made, and on the motion for its adoption an amendment was moved thanking the Committee for its efforts., but relieving it- of further services. The reasons stated for the amendment were that a great many did not want a change, and that the'difficulties were insuperable. A long and hot discussion followed, and the amendment was negatived by 67 to 27.
