SCENERY PRESERVATION.
A DAWDLING COMMISSION
"TIME TO CUT THE PAINTER."
[PUESS ASSOCIATION.]
WELLINGTON, March 15. Referring to the Scenery Preservation Commission, the Premier considers that there has been too much delay in dealing with some reserves which should have been secured, with the result that the Government is involved in additional cost. The Commission had cost the Colony £2500 in fees, travelling expenses, etc., and it was about time to cut the painter and hand the powers of the Commission over to the officers of the Land Department. The Commissioners were still travelling, and he supposed they thought they Avere going on for ever; but they had made a mistake. The Commission comprised good men, but there had been too much delay.
