AWATERE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Awatere Road Board was held on Monday at Seddon, when there were present: Messrs Neville (Chairman), Green, Armstrong, Dollar and Rutherford. Letters were received from the County Clerk, notifying the Board that in the division of the goldflelds revenue its share was one per cent.; from the Secretary of the Wairau Hospital Board stating that a rate of one sixth of a penny in the £ had been fixed for the current year ; from the Receiver of Land Revenue advising the Board that £130 4s 2d had been placed to its credit. Th© Roads Department forwarded an agreement authorising the expenditure of £200 on the Hog Swamp road. The Treasury notified the Board that £318 15s, advance of subsidy, and 12s sd, County CoHßcil revenue, had been placed to its credit. The application of Mr J. G. Armstrong for renewal of his slaughterhouse license was approved. Mr G. B. Richardson wrote asking the Board to take into consideration the amount of compensation due to him for land taken for a road through his property; it was decided to hold this over till next meeting. The Inspector was empowered to purchase the explosives now lying at Seddon belonging to the Public Works Department at the schedule prices. It was resolved that the contractor for the maintenance of the Avon Grey track be requested to put the road in order ; that tho Tnspector have a groin put in at Woodman's Bend; that a culvert be repaired near the Richmond Brook road; that the road be improved leading into the gravel pit at the Awatere Bridge; that the Secretary write to tho Mi»wtor for Lands asking for permission to U3e the road through f>be State nursery for carting gravel, this being tho most convenient place to get gravel for the Board's roads; also to the Forest Department, asking if it will plant shelter trees on tho road between the railway station and the Awatere bridge. Mr Geo. Horn was appointed Returning Officer to the Board. A. Marfell's tender for No 6 contract, 10s per chain, was accepted ; only one tender was received for No. 4 contract, and as this was considered unsuitable the work was ordered to stand over for the pre sent. No tender was received for No. 5 contract; it was decided to add another 50 chains to this work and call for fresh tenders. Tenders were also ordered to be called for 50 chains of gravelling on Sea View road. Accounts amounting to £260 Ss were passed for payment.
