♦ ARRANGEMENT OP COMPANIES. appointmenFof officers. Wellington, March 20. Col. Newall will go to the Cape m charge of the Fifth Contingent 1, bat it is not actually settled whether he trill have ultimate command. He will take a letter recommending him to the Imperial authorities for employment. The following temporary appointments.in connection with the Fifth Contingent are made:—V. Sanderson, acting Quartermaster-Sergeant; Privates French atd Speedy, Corporals, with special supervision oi horses. There will be five Companies m the Fifth Contingent—loo from Wellington (the officers have already been given), 50 from Wellington, 50 from Nelson (Lievts. Haselden and Simeon, Marlborougb, complete the officers of this Coy); Dunedin, 100 men, with Capt. Jackson and Lieut. W. H. Ross of the North Otago M.R., other positions still being vacant ; Canterbury 100, Capt. Carrie (of Auckland), Lieut. (late Sergt.-Major) Whyte ; Auckland 100, Capt. Major, Lieuts. Boswortb, Shaw and Potter. The Government have completed the charter of the Maori for the conveyance of the men to South Africa.

Auckland, March 20. By the Mararoa a detachment of 15 Troopers for the Fifth Contingent left Auckland for Wellington. Limit. Shaw, who has had service m the Imperial and Canadian forces, went m charge of the detachment. Horses will be shipped for the use of the Contingent to-morrow. A detachment (Lieut. 'Bosworth, 11A " Battery, m charge) of 30 men, with 50 horses, will be despatched to Wellington by the Gairloch from Onehunga. This equad will go by train from New Plymouth to Wellington. The rest of the Fifth Cqntingent will be cent away from camp to Wellington as opportunity offers during the nest few days. Christohtjhoh, March 20.
