SENSATIONAL CONSPIRACY CASE.
HEAVY SENTENCES. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, August 9. A sensational conspiracy case has been occupying the attention of the Court. Last year Judge Windeyer granted Thoe. Richard Butler a decree nisi for divoroe from his wife, on the grounds of adultery with George Williams, whose real name has since been ascertained to be Charles Davis. Subsequent revelations led the Crown to prefer against Butler, Davis and a woman named Peake a oharge of conspiracy to faisely accuse Mrs Butler. Evidence was submitted to prove that Davis and Peake had been paid by Butler to lead his wife astray m order that the latter might obtain divoroe. All three accused were found guilty, the jury adding a rider that Mrs Butler had not committed the offence for which the divoroe was granted. Butler and Davis were sentenced to seven years imprisonment, and Mrs Peake to four years. Rofe, who acted as solicitor for Butler m the divorce proceedings, has also been arrested on a charge of conspiracy.
