APPALLING WRECK.
A CHINA MAIL BTEAMER SrRIKKS A ROCK. ENTIRE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE VESSEL. FIFTY-BEVENMIVE3 LOST. [UNITED FRBBB ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, Aug 7. The steamor Catterthun struck on the Seal Rocks at 2.30 this morning and sank m fifteen minutos. A boat containing the captain, doctor, second mate, two other white men, and sixteen Chinese and crew landed at Foster. The others are supposed to be lost. Sydney, Aug 8. The boats which landed at Foster contained 30 Chinese, including 16 of the crew, and the following white men : — Dr Copeman, A. W. Langfear, second mate; Mr Crane, and Oapt. Fraser, the pilot. Other boats containing the captain of the steamer and othor officers are missing. The Oatterthun left Sydney last night for China via way ports m charge of Oapt, Nat Shannon and the following officers: — W. P Pinney, mate; A. W. Langfear, second mate ; Harold Leffler, third mate ; H. Anderson, surgeon ;J. H. Harper, F. Wilson, J. W. Adams, A. Wolsterholme, chief, second, third and fonrth engineers ; R. Manning, chief steward ; W. Jackson, quartermaster, and a Chinese crew of 44. She carried as passengers: — R. Fraser, F. 0. Craae, Dr Copeman, Dr Anderson, Oapt. Fawkes, Mesdames Mathews, Loring, Miss Loring and 15 Chinese. Tugs have been sent from Newcastle to secure the wreck.
