CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY.
» ■ . The annual meeting of the members of the Church of the Nativity was held m the Schoolroom last evening, the Yen Archdeacon Grace presiding. The Minister's Warden (MrFearn) was unable to be present through illness. The annual report and balance sheet was passed. In submitting the report for year ending 80th June, the Vestry regretted that a more favorable financial position could not be shown, although, perhaps, taking into account the depressed state of business, wet Sundays, and floods, the year terminated as well as could reasonably be expected. The offertories were £195 14s 2d, as against £289 18s 7d last year— a reduction of £43 19s sd. A large amount of pew rents were outstanding (£95 18s 4d), the greater part owing by holders who use the sittings without making an effort to pay, which is unfair to those who do pay, and discouraging to the church officers, especially when many defaulters are m a position to contribute. The envelope system worked well, but required more subscribers, and greater attention on their part. The annual revenue account showed a balance oi £83 9s 7d; the balance of assets over liabilities was £8 5s 4d; the balance to debit on the loan account being £662 2s 4d. The Yen Archdeacon Grace gave an address on church work, dwelling on the various means of raising funds, and quoted from an Australian paper, which said that many of tbi means used would go to show thai the people of New Zealand were " lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God." The following office bearers wer< elected for the ensuing year : — Minis ter's Warden: Mr Moore; People's Warden : Mr Booth ; Vestry : Messri Weetman, Snodgrass, Pasley, Clay ton, Fearn, Fawcett; Auditor: M: Eogers; Synodsmen: Messrs Whiti and De Castro. Votes of sympathy were passe< with Eev. Geo. Grace and Mrs J. P Lucas m their late bereavements Special mention was made by th< Yen. Archdeacon Grace as to th< enthusiastic way m which Mr Lucai had entered into the work of organist saying it was the same with that ai with every other work the deceased gentlemen undertook. Whatever hii hand found to do he did it with hii might. Votes of thanks were also pasaec to the organist, choir, Sunday schoo ■workers, lay readers, and ladies of thi congregation. The meeting closec with the benediction.
