♦ DESTITUTION IN LANCASHIRE. [united press association.] London, August 17. The Lancashire miners are begging from door to door. 130,000 hands are idle m Wales. Thirty passenger trains on the Greai Northern line have had to- be stopped owing to the dearness of coal. AN ENCOUNTER IN WALES. Received August 19, lam. London, August 16. A thousand strikers marched on Ebbc Vale, m Monmouth, Wales, m order tc intimidate the men who had taken theii place. The lattsr retaliated, and a fierce fight ensued A number on either side were injured. The Cumberland miners have resumed work at an advance of ten per cent. The Durham miners refused to strike. A FATAL CONFLICT IN FRANCE. PAEIB, AUgUSt 17. French workers attacked Italian laborers m the vicinity of the mines, and a general meica took place. Ten persons were killed, and forty injured.
