ANOTHER QUERY FOR THE RABBIT BOARD.
TO THE EDITOR. - Sib,— l should like to draw attention to the inefficient working of the Rabbit Act, as administered' by the var|ous local bodies concerned. For instance: Why should the public be put to the inconvenience of alighting to open and shut a gate m a wire netted fence crossing a public road, under a penalty of £5 (as is the case on the Valleyfield boundary), when the wire netting extends only a few chains past the gate, and the "rabbits can pass to and fro at will? Again, why do not the authorities, when such a gate has been erected, take steps to have the rabbits exterminated' in the adjoining paddocks, so that the public may be saved unnecessary inconvenience. If, however, they are allowed to annoy the travelling public by putting such|obnoxious obstructions across the road, at least the road inspector ought to make the owners of the gate keep it m decent repair, the said gate having at present a broken hinge. —I am, &c, TR&VEIiIiEB.
