THE PENNY POST. MR BLACKETT'S DESIGNATION. [united pbess association.] Wellington, March 31. Ministers have decided for the present to defer the question of fixing the date for bringing the penny post m operation. Mr Blackett has resigned his position of consulting engineer m London as from October 31st. The Government do not intend to fill the vacancy. The salary is £800 per year. : N Later. Nothing will be done re. the penny postage till June Ist at the earliest, when the Cabinet will re- consider tbje question. EoNEDiN, March 3 1. The Star states that Bffc j^uckley will shortly resign, and seek electjqn to the House jf Commons for an Irish constituency m thfwational interest.
