The .memorable -wreck of the steamer Tararaa at Waipupa Point m 1881 is recalled by the death, at the age of thirtynine, of Mrs Paddon of Fortrose. On that occasion, the deceased lady who was of fine physique and a splendid horsewoman, rode over rough country and through a number of streams, with food • and clothing for the survivors, while she also 1 took an active part m the melancholy task of dressing for burial the bodies washed ashore. For her services, she received the thanks of a number of public bodies and a presentation.
