ALLEGED TORTURE OF EUROPEAN PRISONERS.

(17N1TJ5O PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, June 29. The Anti-Slavery Society have received messages that several Europeans are de T tamed as prisoners at Khartoum. One, a Mr Sla'ten, is retained as the' Mahdi's running footman ; another, Mr Cupton, is compelled to. work m the arsenal ; and a third, Mr Newfeld, has been kept repeatedly chained, and has occasionally been partially hanged. Other prisoners, who had been similarly tortured, had succumbed. It is stated that 500 Egyptian troops are sufficient to rescue the remaining prisoners, and it is also asserted that many of the tribes would be glad of the opportunity of deserting the Mahcli and throwing m their allegiance with the friendly Arabs.
