MARLBOROUGH LAND BOARD
The monthly meeting of the above Board took place on Monday last. Present , The Commissioner (m the chair), Messrs Seymour, Paul, Bodson, and Lambert. Memorandum from the Government, stating that a block of 153 acres at Tory Channel had been temporarily reserved for a lighthouse and signal station. Mr D. Creech offered £15 a year rent i 'or the reserve aoross Torea neck. Resolved that the Board declines to interfere with Mr Gallery's occupation at present. Resolved that pastoral licenses of over 100 acres at Heapny Point be auctioned at the upset rent of £10, and also over 275 acres (Village Reserve) at Wairau River mouth, at upset rent of £5, and also over 100 sores at East Bay at upset rent of £3, and also over 1125 acre 3 Arapawa island, at upset rent of Id per acre. Resolved that a license for a site for a tramway be granted over 20 acreß, Wet Inlet, to Alexander Malcolm, terra 3 years, aunual rent £1. Resolved that ths next Crown Lands auction be held on Monday, Feb. 1. Resolved that 51 acre,?, Wakamarina district, surveyed at the request of TEneas M'Millan, he classed as pasture land, and assessed at £26 2s, and that the Governor be asked to proclaim it as open for lease, with right of renewal. 119 Acres, section 1, block V, Cloudy Bay district, was classed aa pasture land, for sale for caah, and assessed at £00. Resolved that the question of assessment of the sections set apart for perpetual leasing m Rai Valley stand over till next meeting. It was reported that licenses to cut sleeperß had been issued to Geoffrey Morton and Wm. Henderson, jnn., and renewed to John Mills, McAlpine and Oampbe 1, A. P. Houghton, A. P. Boughton, and James McMahon. Ordinary timber licenses had been issued to J. L. Adams, F. A. S. Suißtcd, and laaao N. Harvey. Resolved that the road laid out by the Wairau Road Board through unoccupied Crown land between Bock Ferry and Bartlett'a creek be approved. Letter from Sheep Inspector Passau stating that rabbits are greatly on the increase on unoccupied Crown lands, Wairau River bed, known as Raydale Run No 2, and that it is absolutely necessary that these rabbits should be destroyed. Also recommending that the land m question should be again leased on similar conditions to those m Mr Paul's license. Resolved that Mr Pasßau be informed that his recommendation cannot be carried out, as Raydale is not a reserve. The meeting then adjourned.
