MORE MISREPRESENTATION AND IGNORANCE.
Mr Ward is going to the poll upon the Btrength of a quantity of claptrap statements, gross misrepresentations, . and astounding ignorance which, except ito those who know the man, is perfectly incredible. Over and over again haajhe stated at his meetings that during the solitary session he was m Parliament .he oppoied the Abolition of Provinces Bill solely on the ground that the question should be postponed and brought before the people again. Would Mt W.vd bo surprised to know that the Act he oppa-icd actually provided for that very postponement? Section 28 of the Abolition of Provinces Bill runs as follows : — " sections 25, 26, and 27, and this section of this Act shall come into operation on ihe day on which it ia assented to by the Governor m the name and on behalfof Her Majesty, and the remaining sections of this Act shall come into operation on the day next after the last day of the fitst session of the nexi or sixth Parliament! of New Zealand." Let the eleotors of the Wairau bear this m mind : that Mr Ward says he opposed a Bill for not containing a certain thing which, without doubt; it clearly did contain. The Abolition Act expressly 'left it to ths people— for the general elections turned on that very question—and to the next Parliament to decide whether or not provincialism should iba put an end to. Poor Mr Waid is ignorant of this fact, and has proclaimed his ignorance on the housetops. Is he the kind of man that the Wairau electors can trust to represent them m Parliament ? His very memory as to the leogth of the 1875 session is at' fault. So far from its being a brief, session, th& legislative enactments of that' jr ear compare favorably with those . of any other year. .Is there another candidate m New Zealand who has made such a pitiablo exhibition of himself, or whose ignorance of the facts is so alarming ?■ . , ■ , ; ;
