THE YOUTH DEMANDS HIS PRESENTS.
Rather more than a fortnight ago, the swain, who was amorous once, wrote to hia lady-love demanding the return of the gifts or pledges of affection, consist ; ng of a variety of blankets and bed-linen, which involved an outlay of £10. m addition to a locket and pair of earrings. His request for the restoration of the things was couched m very unloverlike language. He gave the young lady very distinctly to understand that if he did not get them by fair means he would have them by foul, and represented that it was just he likely as not that his next letter would be a lawyer's. The extent of his determination may be gathered from the fact that he announced his resolution to have th6m if it cost him £50, while the concluding sentence was a persistent rerai uder that no matter where he met her he would ask her 1 for them. ,
