BIG BUSH SCHOOL.
SiR,---On Saturday evening, May fit'll, a prelimiuary meeting was held at the very pretty School.house, at the Bitr Bush, to take into consideration the advisability of erecting a skillion to the school-house as a residence for the master, Mr J. G. Clark in the chair, when after deciding that it should be done, and feeling that publicity enough had not been given, they adjourned for that to be done. The adjourned meeting was held on Tuesday evening, to appoint three extra School Committeemen and to carry out the idea of erecting a skillion as a residence for the schoolmaster. Mr .1. (!. Clark, (in the chair,) made a few remarks upon the advisability of the master being a married man, and the necessity of himself and wife living on the premises, especially as the pupils were of mixed sexes, and also to protect the fences, &c., from being i - jured, and also the more as Mr Tirrel, the master, had promised that Mrs Titrcl would devote two afternoons to teaching the girls needlework and embroidery. He hoped they would act with unanimity, and as the expense would not he much in comparison to the benefit to be derived, that it would be carried out. Mr Bush, in a neat speech, repudiated going intc* anything till they had elected three additional School Committeemen, and proposed that they should he elected at once, when four gentlemen were proposed, and Bush, Thompson, andPritchard elected. Mr Pritchard was unamimously elected Secretary and Treasurer. A workingeornrnittee was thou elected to see the building arrangements properly carried out. and it was carried that the Educational Board he applied to for leave to erect the building.
It was further resolved that a tea meeting he held on the Queen’s Birthday, to aid the funds of the Building Committee, and a committee consisting of Messrs Collier, Beatson, Sadd, Lamb, Shepherd, Sutherland, Thompson, and Wratt, .with power to add to their number, were chosen to see that the tea meeting be carried out in accordance with the wishes of the meeting. A subscription was then entered into, and the sum of £ls promised in the room, which speaks more than words how urgent the inhabitants of the Bush consider the project. After a short address from from Mr Thompson and several other gentlemen, urging the necessity of all putting their shoulders to the wheel and practically carrying out the object of the meeting, a vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, and one of the most successful and unanimous meetings ever held in Marlborough was closed. And it is sincerely hoped, Mr Editor, you will be kind enough to give all the publicity yon can in furtherance of its object. Also that any correspondence from friends who are wi.ling to assist will have all attention paid fo them by addressing the Secretary, Mr N. Pritchard.— 1 am, &u., Pm 11,0.
