Napier, May 8. The s.s. Nevada arrived at ten yesterday morning. She left again at eleven. May 9. Maney’s residence at Meanee was completely burnt last night. It was a valuable building. No property saved. The Supreme Court opened to-day, but there were no important cases. The Provincial Council sits this afternoon. Dunedin, May 12. The dinner to the officers of the Nevada was a great success. The Superintendent presided. The consecration of the Rev. Mr Neville as Bishop of Dunedin is postponed till the 13th. Judgment in Regina v. Strode in re Lemon (the Telegram case) deferred. During last Monday’s gale the steamer Pretty Jane drove on a reef at Kakanui, and was damaged, but not seriously. Dunedin, May 8. A goldfields circuit of the Supreme Couit is to he established. Warden Simpson reports an important' discovery on the Bluespur. The Otago Troy Company sunk to the bed rock at a depth of seventy feet below the present sluicing level, and discovered rich wash. Piji dates to April sth. The sequel to the Paillie murder is the discovery of the dead body of Scott not far from the scene ot the murder, leading to the supposition that Scott was undressed before the murder, and that immediately after committing the deed he hastily took up his clothes and revolver, and made for the bush, where he shot himself. Underwood, a planter, has been murdered by the natives. The losses bv the late hurricane are heavy. The schooners Mary Ann Christina and Lurline are amongst the total wrecks. The Nouava was blown over at anchor, and the men drowned. Curtis, a planter, was drowned by the floods.
The wreck of a large American vessel, name unknown, is reported on the coast.
