SUNNYSIDE MENTAL HOSPITAL.
COMMISSION OF INQUIRY. PEE UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHIUSTCHURCH, Sept.. '26. The inquiry into the treatment and care of certain patients at Sunnyside Mental Hospital was resumed to-day. The Commission heard evidence regarding the treatment of the late William Alexander Tribe. His widow said that her late husband was committed to the asylum in January last. She visited him on March 1 and frequently thereafter. From the first she found him untidy and dirty, and the second time she went he had a black eye. The warder said a patient did it. She spoke to ])r Gow (medical superintendent) about Tribe' clothes. Tribe complained to her of ill-treatment by attendants. AYhen Tribe went to the asylum ho was in good bodily condition, but got very .thin in the institution. His feet were in ;t dreadful condition owing to ill-fit-ting boots. She once found a nail in his boot lacerating his 'foot. Harold Tribe, son of the last witness, said he found his father lying on a mattress on the floor of a cell with his foot Ikhiikl up. The Commission is btill sitting.
