GORE POULTRY SHOW.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION. JUDGE'S PRAISE. The work of erecting the pens and stalls in the Town Hall for this exhibits of the Gore Poultry dub's Show, which opened this morning was completed last night at about 10 o'clock, and the last of the exhibits came to hand this morning, everything being in readiness for the work ofthe judge shortly after nine The entries received for ibis rear's show constitute a record, being ooosiderably in excess of those of last year after excluding the entries far the Winter Show section of the catalogue whioh haa 'been added this year. The following table gives a comparison of the figures for the last two years:— 1912 1913 Poultry ... -« 220 308 Pigeons, etc., m 23 47 Pets ... ... ... 17 6 Grain & produce —• 32 Baiking, jams and jellies 260 "467 In the poultry classes, utility white Leghorns brought out the largest en-

try, a total of 41 exhibits being received, the pullet class alone responsible for 20. The principal exhibitors in this class were Messrs Boss, Borley, O&sey and Watts, the type of birds shown being of ai very high standard. Andalusians brought out the next largest entry, 26 birds of fine quality being penned, Messrs Geo. Kerr and 1 Geo. Hunter being the largest exhibitors. White Wyandottes came next in order, 25 birds being shown, Messrs Kerr and Hunter being the largest exhibitors in this class also. The majority of the entries were in exoellent show condition, and reflect the greatest credit on the exhibitors, the whole exhibit presenting a most pleasing spectacle. The" pigeon classes were well filled, the Homers being a specially fine lot, and the section generally shows a distinct improvement on that of last year's I snow.

The judge (J£r C. T. Grant) in a prehminary inspection of the various pens expressed himself as very much impressed with the quality and condition of the exhibits, stating that from what t 5 already seen, he was satisfied the show was the best function of its kind that he had seen this season. Considering the very short notice given to the public, the entries for the Winter Show section (totalling 106) are distinctly tiws display of roots being specially good. The cookery section made a very pleasing display. Mesdames Gillespie, MatJieson (Mataura), Henderson, Bell, Broome, Hamilton, Prebble. and Misses Russell and Henderson being the principal exhibitors.

The hard-working committee, especially Messrs Catch pole (secretary), Hamilton, Sim, Watts, and Foubister, are deserving of the highest praise for the very efficient manner in which th»y have worked to make the function a success, and the result of their efforts must be a source of much gratification to them. The result of the five guinea special prize in section V. of the lad: es' classes will be announced at eight o'clock at the show to-night. The work of judging commenced about 10 o'clock, the following being the results to the time of going to ->refis: PRIZE-LIST. POULTRY. , Judge: Mr C. T. Grant, Benmore. GAME. BJack-red cock.—R. E.
