TO SUPPRESS CATTLE TICK. Received November 30, 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 30. The report of the Royal Commission which investigated the suppression of cattle tick in the United States has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly. It "The almost complete absence of straying stock on the roads and in public places constitutes a very material factor in assisting the eradication of the tick. Farmers in the Eastern States dip every 10 to 14 days; Southern and Central, 18 to 21. Since 1006, 107,714 square miles, neatly a quarter of the quarantined area, has been freed from tick. When the number of cattle relative to the area permits, the starvation of the seed or larvae of the ticks is undertaken. The rotation method of resting the pastures .gives very quick and reliable results." The opinion is expressed that crossbreeding for immunity from tick fever cannot be done although certain crosses proved remarkably resistant. The tick medicament used in the vats is an arsenical preparation of similar proportions to that of New South Wales. Numerous recommendations are made regarding quarantine, dipping, inspection of stock and the erection of vats.
