MAKING THE BEST OF IT.
AN INTREPID AEROPLANIST. Received Julv 20, 9 a.m. I PARIS, July 19. After waiting for suitable weather for a week at Calais, Mr Latham (an Englishman) started to-day to cross the English Channel. Ho" ascended to a groat height and then the motor slowed down and stopped. The machine descended after going 10 miles. 'The crew of a French destroyer who followed the voyager found Mr'Latham calmly smoking a cigarette and sitting on the floating aeroplane. Tho destroyer took Mr Latham and his aero-, piano back to Calais. Mr Latham, an Englishman, recently aeroplaned for 07 minutes in his Antoinette Monoplane at Maine, healing the French record.
