GORE METHODIST CHURCH.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. The annual tea and public meeting in connection with the Gore Methodist Sunday School was held in the church on Wednesday evening. A large number were present at the tea, and a still larger number at the meeting which followed. The Rev. H. L. Blamires presided. The secretary (Mr W. McKenzie) read the annual report, which showed an increase in attendance during the year of about 20. There had also been a considerable increase in the membership of the Junior Endeavor Society connected with the pchool. The balance-sheet showed receipts £lB, expenditure on school requisites, prize? and library books £ls, leaving a credit balance of £3. A lengthy programme was submitted, solos being rendered by Lottie Preece, Hilda Dewar, Alice Fryer, Spenee Alloit, Robert McLintock, and Leslie Dewar ; recitations by Walter Lee, Sleie Martin, Olive Walker, and a reading by Mis 3 May Hargest. The junior scholars gave two dialogues in a way that showed careful training. The dialogue, " Wanted a Boy," contributed by the senior scholars, in character, caused considerable merriment. During the evening several anthems were sung by the children, under Mrs Palmer, to whom a special word of praise is due for the excellent way in which the voices had been trained. A feature of the programme was a short address by Mr W. Gilchrist, who, in his bappiest vein, referred to the growing unity among the churches, punctuating bis remarks with some appropriate and pity illustrations. The prizes awarded by the school were handed to those who entered for the recent examination conducted by the N.Z. Methodist Sunday School Union. At the close of tbe programme, the superintendent (Mr E. C. Smith), on behalf of the teachers, thanked all tboje who had assisted to make tbe anniversary the success it undoubtedly had been. Miss Ethel Dewar acted as accompanist during the evening.
